The Pain of Gout - My Personal Search for a Gout Cure
March 4th, 2011The pain of gout is unbelievable. Having endured a number of gout attacks I was desperate to find a gout cure, some way to avoid ever again having to suffer the excruciating pain.
My name is Mark, 48 years old at the time of writing, and someone who has suffered from gout for some 10 years.
If you have arrived at this blog because you think you MAY have suffered a painful attack of gout but don’t really believe you ‘fit the bill’ then you are where I was around 10 years ago.
I was on holiday in The Maldives when I awoke one night with a terrible pain in the big toe joint of my right foot. I had no idea what was causing it but I can tell you one thing - if I had to draw up a list of the 100 most likely causes there is no way on earth that gout would have made that list.
You see I didn’t even know what gout was. Sure I’d heard of it but only as an ailment of rich, fat old Victorian gentlemen who’d overdone the drinking and feasting but even then I didn’t know what gout actually was. Anyway, I wasn’t even 40 and considered myself fit and healthy, if perhaps a couple of stone overweight and maybe enjoying a few more drinks than most.
So there I was on a tiny island in paradise with an agonising right foot. With the nearest doctor an expensive seaplane journey away I decided to ‘tough it out’. That evening I hobbled to the restaurant where I ate a plateful of seafood and then on to the bar where I resolved to ‘have a good few’ to help me sleep through the pain.
Those familiar with the causes of gout will doubtless be wincing at such a strategy. It was only once my doctor finally confirmed gout that I was told of the links between gout attacks and seafood/protein and alcohol!
The Pain of Gout Continues
Back home I suffered another painful attack of gout around 6 month later. At this stage I could still just about get a shoe on and get into work. So once again I toughed it out though this second attack was more painful than the first.
After a third attack some months later someone suggested it was gout so I mad an appointment to see my doctor. She took one look at my swollen, throbbing right toe joint and told me immediately I had gout (though I was sent for blood/urine tests to confirm).
This is when I was made aware of some of the possible causes:
- High protein diet and especially offal (check)
- Overweight (check)
- Likes a drink (check)
One thing I had noticed was that the attacks of gout were becoming more painful with each attack and the time to subside was also increasing. This was exacerbated by my need to somehow get my much bigger, swollen foot into a fairly rigid shoe to go to work.
So following yet another attack I returned to my doctor who prescribed Diclofenac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drug designed to reduce both inflammation and pain. Personally I found this had little effect on the pain as by now the pain levels were off the scale. The Diclofenac may well have done something but to me it was nowhere near enough.
There have been many attempts to describe the pain of a full-on gout attack. The ones that have stuck with me and perhaps convey the pain best to non-sufferers are the ones that described the pain as:
- Like walking on your own eyeballs.
- Like dropping a cannonball on your foot.
By this point I was desperate for a cure … prevention … anything. My doctor’s response was that there is no cure and you WILL suffer more attacks …… oh great! She offered to put me on Allopurinol to control the levels of uric acid in my body but to be honest the thought of being on a daily drug for the rest of my life, aged 38, didn’t appeal.
My Search for a Natural Gout Cure
So I resorted to my own internet research. The internet had much less information available 10 years ago but I did manage to find some suggestions which included drinking nettle tea and eating cherries.
Now unlike the somewhat acquired taste of nettle tea I actually love cherries and started eating them regularly, even though they are one of the more expensive fruits. Then I read another article which said this was an old Victorian remedy based on some substance within the cherry but I would need to eat upwards of a kilo a day for it to have any possible (and still unproven) effect!
So like a lot of gout sufferers I pretty much accepted my lot and just got on with life. The trouble with gout is you never know when the next attack will come. This meant celebrations such as Christmas, New Year etc were always tainted with the fear of an attack if I enjoyed myself too much.
And yes, the attacks did keep happening so a while ago I returned to the internet to see if anyone had found some miracle cure I hadn’t heard of.
That search led me to this website which claimed to offer some simple yet unbelievably effective solutions to not only relieve the intense pain but also effectively cure gout.
As I read the testimonials from VERY happy customers I also noticed the information they provide has the backing of a qualified doctor. So I thought “For the price, this is worth it regardless” and ordered my copy of The Gout Remedy Report.
I imagine many people order this whilst in the throes of a full-on attack but I desperately didn’t want another attack! If this report could help me achieve this then I would be a VERY happy customer.
And I’m happy to say that by following the recommendations provided in the report I have not experienced a gout attack for over two years now. I don’t even have any of those close shaves - you know, those nights when your big toe joint becomes very sensitive as if to say “Watch it, or else”.
These days I don’t even think about gout. I have no fear of “when will the next one be”. If this sounds like the sort of information you’ve been seeking and you too want to remove the agonising pain of gout from your life then take a look at what they have to offer here.
